Welcome to Sk8te. This Privacy Policy explains how Sk8te (“Sk8te”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Definitions

  • Account – a unique account created for you to access the Service.
  • App – the Sk8te mobile application.
  • Content – videos, clips, session data, and any other material you create, upload, or share through the Service.
  • ML Analysis – automated machine learning processing of your video footage to detect tricks, session statistics, and other skateboarding-related information.
  • Network – the social feed and community features within the Service that allow users to share Content with others.
  • Personal Data – any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • Service – the Sk8te App and associated web services.
  • You – the individual accessing or using the Service.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, username, and password. You may optionally provide a profile photo and bio.

Video and Media Content

The core function of Sk8te is recording skateboarding video. When you use the App:

  • We access your device camera and microphone to record clips.
  • Recorded video files are stored locally on your device and, where you choose to upload them, on our servers.
  • You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to record any people, locations, or properties that appear in your videos.

Machine Learning Analysis Data

Video content you submit for analysis is processed by our ML systems to extract session statistics, trick detection, and performance data. This derived data (e.g. detected tricks, session duration, timestamps) is stored against your account and may be surfaced in your profile and shared with other users if you choose to make it public.

Location Data

If you grant location permission, we collect GPS data to map your skate sessions and calculate distances. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, though some features will be unavailable without it.

Usage and Device Data

We automatically collect device identifiers, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and usage analytics to improve the Service.

User-Generated Network Content

If you share Content to the Network, that Content — including video, associated ML analysis results, and any captions or tags — becomes visible to other users according to your privacy settings. Public Content may be viewable by anyone.

How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
  • Run ML Analysis to generate skateboarding insights from your recordings.
  • Enable social features, including sharing clips, following other users, and community feeds.
  • Send push notifications, app updates, and service-related communications.
  • Monitor and improve App performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your Personal Data. We may share it in the following circumstances:

  • Other Users – Content and profile information you set as public is visible to other Sk8te users and, where you share a clip link, to anyone with that link.
  • Business Transfers – if Sk8te is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction.
  • Legal Requirements – we may disclose your information when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sk8te, our users, or the public.
  • With Your Consent – for any other purpose with your explicit consent.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your Personal Data.
  • Withdraw consent for location tracking or camera access via device settings.
  • Download a copy of your data.
  • Request restriction or objection to certain processing.
  • Delete your Account at any time through the App settings, which will remove your profile and Content from public view (some data may be retained for legal or operational purposes for a limited period).

Data Retention

We retain your Personal Data for as long as your Account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Uploaded video content is retained until you delete it or your Account is closed. Derived session and ML analysis data may be retained in anonymised or aggregated form indefinitely.

Security

We implement industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your data. However, no system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.

Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

Physical Activity and Injury

Skateboarding is an inherently dangerous physical activity that carries a significant risk of injury, including serious bodily harm or death. By using Sk8te, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • Sk8te is a technology tool only. It does not provide instruction, safety advice, or supervision.
  • Using the App while skateboarding — including recording, reviewing, or interacting with the App — may increase risk of distraction and injury.
  • You are solely responsible for your own safety, the safety of others around you, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at any location where you skate.
  • Sk8te, its directors, employees, and affiliates accept no liability whatsoever for any injury, death, property damage, or loss arising from your use of the App or participation in skateboarding activities.

You assume all risk associated with your skateboarding activities. If you do not accept this risk, do not use the Service.

Content and Network Liability

  • Sk8te is a platform for user-generated content. We do not pre-screen Content posted by users and are not responsible for its accuracy, legality, or appropriateness.
  • You are solely responsible for the Content you create and share. You agree not to post Content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or infringes the rights of others.
  • Sk8te accepts no liability for any offence, harm, or loss arising from Content posted by other users, or from your inability to access the Service at any time.
  • We reserve the right to remove any Content that violates our Terms of Service.

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or via email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
